The partnership between CSI and EICAR took another turn in 2024. EICAR students came to CUNY.

 

In June 2024, CSI and Brooklyn College’s Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema hosted young directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, photographers, and actors from EICAR. Joined by CSI students, the program followed the Rouch-and-Morin concept of cinema-verité by having students take their phones throughout the city and make cinematic their experiences in New York. From the Starbucks in the Empire State Building to Times Square and beyond, EICAR students embraced New York City as a truly cinematic place. (Oh! And we practiced our ‘franglais’!)

 

The program was an intense bootcamp—not dissimilar to the programs we ran inn France. We screened films, toured Broadway Stages soundstages in Brooklyn, and studied the history of film in New York City. Each day was an intensive immersion into the sights and sounds of the city-space. Paula Massood, now Dean at Brooklyn College, was instrumental in co-organizing and co-leading the program with me. She played a critical role in making available Feirstein which undoubtedly made EICAR’s visit to New York it a success. We look forward to EICAR students visiting in 2026.
