Croissant
A girl eats a croissant.
From an ostensibly simple event—eating a croissant—Denali Bartell’s Croissant invokes the very texture of the French delectable through tight close-ups and acute attention to the ordinarily inaudible crunch the croissant offers up when chewing. Denali’s crew included Zechariah Kamara and Aiden Raheb on camera and Ariana Gaytan on sound. Denali completed the image and sound edit. Delairah Bailey stars as qui se délecte du croissant.
From the Filmmaker
The idea for the film Croissant emerged rather abruptly when I began considering what film would best showcase a “Paris experience.” While tourist attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower, came to mind, I also felt drawn to the concept of exploring the local cuisine. After our discussion on sound, I knew that I wanted to explore a softer and more sound-focused approach to the project. In my day-to-day life, I often find myself struggling to slow down and fully experience things such as meals or conversations. In a world where everything is tinged with chaos, there is something so beautiful about taking the time to enjoy something simple, like a croissant.
